O Cine Clube de Viseu

Um dos mais antigos cine clubes em actividade em Portugal, fundado em 1955, ao longo dos anos a sua actividade não dispensou a divulgação de novas cinematografias e novos autores, a par com o cinema reconhecidamente clássico. Os projectos integram um panorama cultural mais vasto através de três áreas principais de actividade: exibição, publicação e educação.

Hoje, o CINE CLUBE DE VISEU é uma instituição de reconhecido mérito cultural, empenhada em cumprir o seu papel cada vez com mais profissionalismo, e mantendo a vocação regional dos seus projectos, seja na intervenção junto da comunidade escolar (projecto Cinema para as Escolas, desde 1999), ou na programação cultural em rede (COMUM - Rede Cultural, 2004/2006, promovido com a ACERT e sete municípios parceiros, REDE Cultural Viseu Dão Lafões, desde 2013, promovido com outras estruturas culturais).

Fundado em 1955 por iniciativa de um grupo de cinéfilos viseenses, o CINE CLUBE DE VISEU teve, logo na sua primeira fase de existência, momentos altos de intervenção cultural, num período da vida do nosso país em que era difícil tal acção. Projectando filmes para público em geral, no “Cine Rossio”, e para público infantil, no “Clube de Viseu”, todas as sessões eram, já na altura, acompanhadas por textos de apoio e por palestras.

Perspectivando a divulgação e o estudo do Cinema, como arte e cultura, nos seus múltiplos aspectos, durante a sua história o CCV desenvolveu várias iniciativas, no campo da formação, exposições, concursos, etc. Conseguiu grande notoriedade dinamizando áreas como o teatro, as artes plásticas, a música, e especialmente com a sua Secção de Fotografia e o Concurso Anual de Fotografia. Em períodos de adormecimento cultural de Viseu, o CCV foi um pólo de animação cultural de relevo.

No segundo semestre de 1985 o CCV muda-se para a sede localizada no Largo da Misericórdia, onde centraliza a actividade e instala a biblioteca e arquivo. As sessões de cinema têm lugar pelos mais importantes espaços culturais de Viseu: Auditório da Casa-Museu de Almeida Moreira, Auditório Mirita Casimiro e, desde 1997, no Instituto Português da Juventude. Neste ano foi reconhecida ao CCV a Utilidade Pública “pelo mérito cultural desenvolvido ao longo da sua história”.

Em 1999, teve início o projecto CINEMA PARA AS ESCOLAS, realizado anualmente e que visa a sensibilização e formação de novos públicos para o cinema. Entre 2004 e 2006, em parceria com a ACERT de Tondela, o CCV desenvolveu o projecto COMUM - REDE CULTURAL, uma plataforma pioneira em Portugal: consistiu numa programação artística e cultural supra-municipal, abrangendo mais de 100 mil habitantes em sete municípios de três distritos (Aguiar da Beira, Mangualde, Oliveira de Frades, Santa Comba Dão, Sever do Vouga, Tondela e Vouzela).

Com sede na Rua Escura, no Centro Histórico de Viseu, o CCV é hoje uma instituição empenhada em cumprir o seu papel cada vez com mais profissionalismo, com o simples objectivo de, para que a memória cinéfila não se perca, divulgar o cinema enquanto arte e numa perspectiva de cultura integrada.

Established in 1955 by a group of cinephiles, the CINE CLUBE VISEU was, since its early days, in the spotlight of cultural intervention in the region, particularly during the long dictatorship that haunted the country, when it was very challenging to act with such life and dynamism.

A pioneer, CCV conciliated screenings for the general public and children since its early beginnings – always providing programs with background information and reviews, as well as lectures.

Envisioning the dissemination and study of cinema as a form of art and culture, in its various aspects, the CCV has, throughout the years, developed several educational activities, exhibitions, competitions, etc.

The work done in fields such as theater, visual arts and music earned the organization much notability and recognition, specially with its Section of Photography and the Annual Photography Contest. Located in inland Portugal, in a city with long periods of cultural numbness, the CCV has been a cultural hub of great importance to several generations.

Currently, the projects we develop seek to incorporate a wider cultural landscape through three main areas of activity: exhibition, publishing and education.

The CCV offers weekly movie screenings, organized in thematic cycles, raising awareness to new cinematographies, along with classics and admittedly renowned authors.

Due to film supply constraints in Portugal, asphyxiated by premieres of American blockbusters, and looking for greater diversity in the contemporary cultural scene, the role of film clubs is essential, ensuring the screening of dozens of alternative films every year.

Since 2010, the CCV produces VISTACURTA - Viseu Short Festival, with the ambition to discover and acknowledge the audiovisual production taking place in this region. And in the summer we cannot do without our outdoor film screenings in the center of Viseu.

To address the gaps in the regular education of children and teenagers in film, we're proud to promote, since 1999, an intervention project with the local schools community.

In 2020, the Project CINEMA PARA AS ESCOLAS (CINEMA FOR SCHOOLS) hits a remarkable achievement, considering the cultural and educational background in Portugal: continuous activity over 20 YEARS.

With an engaged and persistent approach, the Cine Clube registers a considerable impact that is visible in the number of participants (42,000), the geographic coverage and the wide range of ages of the participants (from 3 years old on).

As a part of this project, we offer training sessions for teachers and interested parties in general, cinema screenings for schools, animation film and other types of workshops, where sometimes short films are produced in collaboration with the participants.

Since 1984, the Cine Clube de Viseu also publishes the magazine ARGUMENTO. Originally thought to disseminate and debate the filmic phenomenon, ARGUMENTO publishes essays on cinema, pedagogy, original artistic works, research and opinion, and is therefore a central project in the CCV's activity.

Financially, we depend in equal shares on our own revenues (membership fees, screenings revenue, service sales) and public funding. To implement these programs, the CCV combines volunteer work from its directors and friends with full-time employees in a semi-professional structure.
